Maligaon, February 21 (MExN): Union Minister of Railways, Commerce & Industry and Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Piyush Goyal on Sunday dedicated various infrastructure development and passenger amenity related works in North Bengal area through video conferencing.
Minister of State of Women & Child Development Debasree Chaudhuri was also present along with other dignitaries at various locations, a statement from the NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Subhanan Chanda informed.
Speaking on the occasion, Piyush Goyal said, “Railways is serving the nation in an extraordinary way. Railways has taken up on itself to contribute big time to the mission of Sonar Bangla. Railways would be fully electrified in 3 years in West Bengal and all ongoing projects will be completed at the earliest.” He also added that North Bengal is beautiful naturally and development of this region would attract more tourists.
In his speech, the Minister mentioned about Indian Railways priority on speeding up of existing projects and total electrification within next three years. In this regard, he said that the newly electrified section from New Jalpaiguri to New Coochbehar which was dedicated today was also part of the national transporter’s effort to achieve 100% electrification of its network. This section, he said, is vital for train movement towards north-eastern states.
Among other things, the Railway Minister also stated that the Indian Railway has been providing new amenities at stations and executing projects spreading throughout the country and thereby making it as a symbol of progress for development. He said that North Bengal areas which are famous for tea, timber and tourism will immensely benefit with the dedication of these projects, the release stated.
