
Maligaon, November 23 (MExN): Railway Protection Force of NF Railway made arrest of 57 touts during special drive conducted at many places during 2019.
A press release by the chief public relations officer Subhanan Chanda stated that the touts would purchase railway tickets in false name by giving fake information/documents etc and then sell the same to other passenger by charging a premium. These passenger while undertaking journey land into trouble as the ticket is in someone else’s name. Genuine railway passengers also faces problem as a result of the same.
To check the menace of touts, RPF has been conducting drives on receipt of information, the press release stated.
In one such case on November 15 at around 11:10 am, officials of RPF/Rangiya conducted drive against tout activities at PRS Counter/Pathsala railway station, and apprehended one person named Bharat Singh from whom they recovered 2 PRS tickets bearing PNR No. 6336960626 and 6336964319 of train No. 15960 DN (Kamrup Express).
The value of the recovered live tickets is Rs. 1,445. In this regard a case has been registered at RPF Post, Barpeta Road.
In another incident on November 13, at about 11:30 am acting on information regarding touting activities by one Galaxy e-ticket Agency located at Bidhan Nagar Chowpathi, Jateswar, WB, a decoy check was made at the above Agency with arrest of the owner of the agency Gopal Sharma along with recovery of 17 e-Tickets, cash Rs. 5,200, one mobile hand set bearing SIM No. 8016038085 and 8250662946, 1 Dell Laptop. Value of the seized 17 railway E-tickets is Rs. 49, 626.86; out of which 13 are live e-Tickets valued at Rs. 48,170.57 and 04 are used e-Tickets valued Rs. 1,456.29. In this regard, a case has been registered at RPF Post, New Coochbehar.
On November 12, acting on information regarding touting activities by one Travel Agency named Suman Tours & Travels, situated at Masjid Complex, Kalibari Road, Udharbond, Dist. Cachar (Assam), RPF / Silchar jointly conducted raid and search at the said agency with help of local police, Udharbond PS.
The owner of the Agency Suman Uddin Mazumder was apprehended along with the recovery of 18 future Railway E-Tickets bearing different PNR numbers, worth Rs. 17,803.60 (Seventeen thousand eight hundred three & sixty paisa only) and 07 used e-Tickets valued at Rs. 7,749.30 which were generated by using personal ID. A case has been registered at RPF Post, u/s 143 Railways Act.
It may be mentioned here that during current year RPF/NFR apprehended and prosecuted 57 touts from different areas within NFR jurisdiction along with seizure tickets and materials. RPF apprehended and prosecuted 51 touts in 2016, 33 touts in 2017 and 57 touts in 2018 respectively.
NFR appeals to all railway passengers to purchase tickets either from PRS counters or Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) authorised agents only to avoid trouble during journey.
