The remnant of Cyclone Hamoon weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area and was centered at 5:30 PM on October 25 over North Mizoram and adjoining Manipur & Myanmar, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) updated Wednesday evening.

"It is very likely to move north-northeastwards and weaken further during the next 12 hours," added the IMD's weather bulletin issued at 8 PM.

Earlier in the day, the national weather agency reported that Cyclone Hamoon made landfall and crossed the Bangladesh coast South of Chittagong between 1:30 AM and 2:30 AM on October 25.

In Bangladesh, Reuters news agency reported that thousands of trees were uprooted, and houses constructed with corrugated sheets were destroyed by the storm's power, especially in Cox's Bazaar. Other reports indicated three fatalities and the evacuation of over 275,000 people.

However, the impact in India was mainly limited to heavy rain and squalls in some locations.

According to the IMD, between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM on Wednesday, rainfall was observed at many places in Kerala and Mahe, at a few places in Uttarakhand, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, and at isolated places in Assam & Meghalaya, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal.

With the further weakening of Cyclone Hamoon, the IMD forecasted "light to moderate rainfall" at many places over Nagaland, Manipur, and East Arunachal Pradesh on October 26.

Thereafter, the IMD's '7 Days Rainfall Forecast' on Wednesday predicted a dry spell from October 27-31 almost all over the country, including Nagaland.
