The Regional Action on IncluSive Education (RAISE) North East will be launched in Nagaland on April 12.
RAISE North East is a project initiated to complement the program of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan on inclusive education to improve the quality of education for children with disabilities in government/government supported schools in selected districts of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur and Tripura. The project is supported by three international agencies - CBM, Light for the world, and Liliane Fonds.
Bibhu Dutta Sahu, Director, RAISE NE during a press conference held on April 11 at Hotel Japfü stated that the main objective of RAISE is to provide a holistic development to the children with special needs. The project will also focus on combating challenges such as changing the attitude of people towards children with disability, changing the attitude of stakeholders that are involved with children with special needs.
The focus areas of the project are development of material for implementation of inclusive education stressing on curriculum adaptations, classrooms transactions and teacher learning materials, disability adjusted continuous and comprehensive evaluation, advocacy and awareness, mentoring, monitoring, evaluation. Another emphasis is on the development of a practical guide for mainstream teachers on how to do inclusive education.
Purnima Kayina from The Cherry Blossoms Society, which is the partner organization for RAISE in Nagaland, informed that the Society will be providing technical support to selected government/SSA schools for inclusive education, to build capacity of government /SSA teachers for teaching children with disabilities, to regularly monitor the selected schools and to promote inclusive model schools.
Cherry Blossoms will be working with five schools in Kohima under the SSA, namely GMS Aradura, Tsüpfü Tsepfü Primary School, Lerie Chazou CWSN, GMS Porterlane and GPS P.R Hill.
Cherry Blossoms Society is a registered society which has been working for inclusive education since 2008. The project which is mapped for five years will prepare a baseline study of the five government/SSA schools with the scope of expanding its intervention, provide short term training to the teachers on inclusive education, exposure visit to well managed SSA schools of other states, exchange visits to partner organizations, development of teaching learning materials and other innovate teaching aids, organize events to promote inclusive education, follow up on Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation and regular monitoring of selected schools.
The project has also pointed out the roles and responsibilities of Government/SSA schools which should permit visits and conduct required activities, assignment of teacher to participate in the project for training, provision of logical support towards collaboration and ensuring the cooperation of the school managing committees, provision of documentation pertaining schools, involvement of CCI in the assessment and health camps that allotted under the SSA scheme.
RAISE North East which has already been launched in Meghalaya and Tripura will be launched in Nagaland at Hotel Japfü with Dellirose M. Sakhrie, Secretary Social Welfare as the chief guest and Rovilato Mor, DC Kohima as the guest of honor.
