Raising voice against child labour

Kohima, April 8 (MExN): Raising voice against child labour in Nagaland, Charity School Kohima organised a marathon race in collaboration with District Child Protection Unit, Kohima and OpenDoor Ministry, Kohima on April 1.  

“Domestic child labour has increased in an alarming rate in our state. Due to lack of awareness, many parents especially from backward regions send their children to work in cities and towns, where better facilities and education are promised for their children. Keeping all this in mind, the organizers raised its voice to create awareness among the people,” stated a press release received here.  

Around 130 students from Class-6 to 10 took part in the marathon. The marathon, flagged off by Kushilto Rolnu, Headmaster of Charity School, Kohima at DBS Higher Secondary School, Kohima, ended at Seikhazou Higher Secondary School via Peace Camp road.

  The participants tied a black ribbon on their hand to show dismay over the abuse. They also carried slogans reading, “I want education in my hand, not bricks”, “for a better nation stop child exploitation”, “Child labour-A shame for the society”, “there is no reason, there is no excuse, child labor is abuse.”  

The presentation ceremony was held at Seikhazou Ground. Candy Zhatsu chaired the programme, Mezanuo Ngukha, semi finalist of Gospel Voice Hunt 2014 presented special numbers, and Avilie Dzüvichü, President, OpenDoor Ministry, Kohima delivered a speech. The prizes were distributed by Megoneituo Kielienyü, who was present during the function on behalf of the District Child Protection Unit, Nagaland.  

Benjamin won the first position, Thejasatuo won second, and Dzieseneizo won third in the race. The winners walked away with a cash prize along with medals and certificates. All the top 10 runners received Rs. 500 each.
