Reception function for AR bikers at Wokha

Wokha, May 10 (DIPR): The 28 Assam Rifles, Wokha under the commandership of Col. Hiren Borah organised a reception function to welcome the bikers of Assam Rifles motorcycle rally on arrival at local ground, Wokha on May 10.

The 17 member team was led by Maj. Abhinav Sudan, 28 AR including three local bikers from Club Royal Enfield, Wokha and three from Kohima reached Wokha on May 9. The motto of the motorcycle rally is to travel across the state covering some districts in the state to spread awareness on the theme ‘HIV/AIDS & Drugs free Nagaland.’  

Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon, IAS while speaking at the programme said out of the various programmes initiated by Assam Rifles, this is one such programme which can help the civilian people.  

He said HIV/AIDS is not only a deadly disease for the person suffering but a social stigma for which people are afraid of getting themselves tested and reveal their disease for the fear of stigma attached to it. He added that village council is an institution which can play an important role when it comes to eliminating of social stigma. He mentioned that there is a culture where people strongly abide the resolution passed by village council. Likewise, if the village council continues to pass such resolution to eliminate the stigma attached to this disease then it will considerably reduce the burden of the society, he said. He advised the school children to keep themselves aware about the menace of drugs abuse and HIV/AIDS and urged them to make a better choice in order to defeat any hurdles in life.  

Commandant 28 AR, Wokha, Col. Hiren Borah while addressing the school children and bikers said, “we must realise that threat comes not only in the form of physical but it comes in the form of diseases like HIV/AIDS and drugs. And to do away with this danger, youths have to play a vital role as strength of the society lies in the youths as they are the Centre of gravity.”  

Team leader, Maj. Abhinav Sudan who also spoke during the programme stated that they have started their rally on May 5 from Kohima and travelled to places like Jessami, Kiphire, Zunheboto and Wokha covering a distance of around 576 KM and still yet to cover about 80-90 Km.  

Highlights of the programme included folk dance by Phiro and Wokha village cultural club, presentation of songs and skit by LMS School and Jazz Band 28 AR and band display by pipe band 28 AR. Around 400 students from 10 schools attended the reception function.
