
Dimapur, June 17 (MExN): Messages of hope, encouragement and happiness have been received from the Naga society following the commitment for reconciliation made by the Naga underground groups in Ching Mei in Thailand recently. The Leader of Opposition, Joint Forum of Nagalnd GBs & DBs and a senior citizens’ organization from Tuensang were received here expressing happiness at the development.
Congress’ Leader of Opposition Chingwang Konyak in his message said the commitment made for reconciliation by the Naga underground groups was “indeed a delightful news.”
“It is my sincere hope that the said covenant thus signed by the leaders is adhered to in words and spirit. I call upon all Naga brothers and sisters to extend their sincere support and prayer to the reconciliation process to bring the solution of the Naga problem at the earliest,” Konyak stated in his message.
The Joint Forum of Nagaland GBs & DBs said it was elated at the message of unity in signing the covenant “of oneness and brotherhood”, as this is the desire and wishes of all the Nagas. In their message, the forum encouraged and appealed to the leaders and cadres of all the underground groups “who did not attend the meet” to also uphold the same spirit for peace, unity and reconciliation. It has urged to “forgive and forgetting the past mistakes of intransigents, bitterness and differences of each other to fulfill the Nagas’ ‘one dream, one voice and one future.’”
The forum has appealed to all peace-loving Naga citizens irrespective of political parties, organizations, denomination and tribes that “temporary boundaries” to support and pray for the leaders of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation to overcome the tasks ahead “spiritually with presence of Almighty God”.
The initiative taken by the government of Nagaland for Naga unity and reconciliation “with positive direction of hope,” is also appreciated by the forum.
Similarly, an organization called ‘Tuensang District United Tribes Elderly Leaders Union’ welcomed the declaration signed by the Naga armed groups. The union congratulated the leaders for their committing to healing through peaceful means.
The union also urged the chief minister of Nagaland and the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland “to cooperate.”
