Reduce superannuation age to 57: NLSF

Dimapur, May 27 (MExN): The Nagaland Law Students’ Federation commenting on the superannuation issue today said that “lacking a job in Nagaland government” is basically due to non retirement of government employees because of the three years extension of superannuation age. NLSF is of the opinion that fixing the length of service for government employees in itself is not the root cause.

The NLSF in a statement appended by its President, Herato Chishi and Assembly secretary, Janbemo Ovung asserted that unless the government considers and reduce the superannuation age from the existing 60 years to that of 57 years, the prospect of the educated qualified to attain a government job would come to a stand still.

It further called for “strict implementation of length of service” on the part of the government, if not it would hinder the hope of the “upcoming Naga generation”.

The NLSF also raised concerns over the rising number of educated unemployed in Nagaland. At the present scenario with many qualified yet unemployed Nagas, NLSF noted that government job is “the only avenue” for the educated unemployed as there are “no other options to create vacancy”.

It also expressed appreciation to the new team of NSF for standing up on the superannuation issue, as carried on in the past by its predecessors. NLSF however expressed dismay questioning the NSF as to “why are they delaying?” The NSF must carry the issue with more determination and commitment for “the general welfare of the society”, the NLSF stated.

NLSF further appealed the state government to intervene immediately for a better tomorrow before “the prevailing chronic problem” of educated unemployed gets widespread.
