With each milestone, we need to rethink and refine our goals, Commissioner of Police, Dimapur Limasunep Jamir, exhorted here today at the concluding session of the Platinum Jubilee Celebration of the Changtongya Students’ Union (CKT).

While lauding the achievements of CKT, Jamir, however, underscored the need for refining and rethinking its goals as the Union march unto the future. To this effect, the Commissioner of Police called for changing societal mindset particularly about government jobs to tackle the problem of the unemployed educated.
‘Appreciate the talent, achievement and intellect of the sectors other than government jobs,’ he noted. Students also need to be in sync with digital age, he added.
Jamir also stressed on the need to change the socio political discourse by encouraging more debates and discussions in platforms such as students’ jubilee and conference. Given its rich history in the sporting arena, he also maintained that Changtongya is fit for opening a sports academy.

Five common social evils
Meanwhile, the Co-Country Director for India of American Baptist International Ministry, Rev Taku Longkumer, who was the resource person in another session, stated that, “Youth need to imagine higher because imagination take you everywhere.”
Citing his own example, he said the world is full of opportunities and called upon the youth to be imaginative and not restrict oneself to Nagaland.
The former Director of the Nagaland Missionary Movement and the Mission Secretary of the Council of Baptist Churches in North East India (CBCNEI) further noted that 5 common social evils are ailing the Naga society today.
These common evils, according to Longkumer, are concerns about - material things; self & self interest; disregard for all thing that doesn't affect you; thinking it’s all right if one’s misdeeds are done undetected; and lack of true conception & true God.
To free from such menaces, Rev Longkumer implored the students to embrace the path of truthfulness. “To build a nation, youth need to stand steadfastly in truth.”
Longkumer also called for tackling the problem of alcoholism and regretted that the village is also vulnerable to such symptom. During election, if anyone sacrifices one rights for money or liquor, he/she is a nation breaker, not builder, he noted.
A bust of Late Pangerkumdang, who sowed the seeds of modern education in Changtongya was unveiled outside the CKT’s Library. For his legacy, he was conferred the title, ‘CKT's Father of Education.’
