Refrain from wrongful interpretation of Bible, NBCC appeals

Kohima, June 20 (MExN): The Executive Committee of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) on Sunday reiterated its request to citizens to refrain from making irrelevant and wrongful interpretation of the Bible that may create anxiety in the minds of the people.

Stating this in a press release which was issued following a virtual meeting on June 18, the committee informed that the house had discussed the involvement and the role of the associations and churches in the COVID-19 crisis. It said that the various circulations pertaining to COVID-19 vaccination and Christian faith had create confusion in the minds of the people, and must be evaluated in the light of Biblical teachings.

“There is vaccine hesitation with varying degrees in different parts of Nagaland. The Executive believes that the best reference to understand vaccination is the medical fraternity. COVID-19 vaccine is a hard earned effort by the community of scientists and researchers, aided by the most advanced research technologies to serve humanity.

Meanwhile, the proofs of vaccine’s efficacy in combating the virus are also fast emerging. Therefore, it will be improper to cast doubts on the tireless effort of those who made vaccine available to us,” the release stated.

Although taking or not taking the vaccine is a matter of individual choice, the competent authority has been persistently educating the masses that vaccine is the best available solution, as of now, to defend ourselves as well as others from this raging pandemic, it added.

In this, the Executive appealed everyone to make a wise decision and avail what is within their reach for the common good.

“In line with Biblical revelations, pandemic will not be uncommon for the world to witness even in the future. Therefore, the Executive believes that, in trying time such as this, everyone should be supportive and be the agents of hope and comfort to one another,” it stated.

“These are difficult times... We must continue to pray that God will be merciful to us and preserve us to be faithful steward to a world that is much in distress. God is sovereign and He is the ultimate. As we pray to God to bring healing to our community, let us also remember the global community battling with the pandemic,” the release stated.
