Kohima, December 21 (MExN): A one day Regional Review Workshop on Family Planning (FP) for the North Eastern States was held at Hotel Vivor, Kohima on December 20.
Welcoming the officials from Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland, Dr. Limaakum Jamir, Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM), Nagaland called upon them to take full opportunity of the occasion and clarify all confusions, share problems and seek for solutions and directions from the GoI officials who were present for the workshop.
R. Ramakrishnan, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland, stating that health is a concern for all, added, “We should take all the angles into consideration while delivering the service to the people.” He stressed on the importance of roping-in all stakeholders especially the churches and creating awareness on the importance of family planning among the people through all possible platforms with ownership.
Dr. S. K Sikdar, Deputy Director (FP), Ministry of Health & Family Planning, GoI while addressing the officials present mentioned that the Government of India is very concerned and has soft corner towards the North Eastern States, taking into account the constraints faced from different corners. Dr. Sikdar made a presentation on where the States stands when it comes to Family Planning Program and the area where improvement is required. He highlighted the new initiatives of GoI under Family Planning Programme.
Dr. Sikdar was accompanied by Dr. Nidhi Bhatt, Dr. Upasna Naik and Dr. Shikha Bansal who are all SPOs under Family Planning Division, MoH & FW, GoI. The team also took the time to give a brief on issues pertaining to the new initiatives of FP program and FP progress, Quality aspect on FP, FP-Logistic Management Information System, Expanded Contraceptive Basket, FP opportunities in post pregnancy and Monitoring & Data Reporting and HMIS: an approach to program monitoring.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Bendangla, State Program Officer (SPO), RCH, Nagaland and the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Thanghoi Lam, SPO, NHM, Nagaland.
