Rejoinder to Mokokchung Sumo Drivers Union

Mokokchung, August 17 (MExN): A rejoinder has been issued to the Sumo Drivers’ Union Mokokchung in connection to the protest called by the union to stop plying of Sumo vehicles in Mokokchung district.

The union had alleged that one Takosenla and her aides had physically assaulted and abused an “innocent” Sumo driver.

In a rejoinder, Takosenla claimed that on August 3 night, the Sumo driver – one Supongnungsang – jumped over the gate and entered her residential premises with an intention to assault and beat up one David Patton, a THC, IGP (INT) of PHQ, Kohima, who was one of her paying guest – Travellers Inn.

Supongnungsang created nuisance and disturbed the entire neighbourhood before disappearing from the scene, Takosenla claimed while adding that she had been out of station that night but succeeded in persuading Patton not to file an FIR but to explore ways to settle the matter amicably.

The next day, she spoke to the Sumo driver over phone and decided to talk about the matter after she reached Kohima. When they met on August 12 to discuss the matter at a Sumo counter, the driver hit her with a chair on the neck and back, Takosenla alleged adding that she is currently undergoing intensive treatment due to the assault.

“Seeing the action of Supongnungsang some male bystanders intervened and they slapped him,” she claimed while insisting that she did not instigate those persons in any manner. “I don’t know any of them personally. They intervened to save my life from the merciless action of Supongnungsang,” she added.

The union had also summoned Takosenla on August 14 but she declined through a letter stating that she was “absolutely innocent” on the matter.

Arguing that the driver “twisted and concocted” the entire episode and has misled the Mokokchung Sumo Drivers’ Union, Takosenla urged the Union to ascertain facts that led to the incident and hoped that the union would act “reasonably, fairly and sensibly”.

“There are witnesses from the entire locality to testify the series of criminal episodes created by Supongnungsang,” Takosenla maintained.
