Tseminyu, February 18 (MExN): The inaugural programme of ‘Rejuvenation of Nsonji Lake Project’ under MGNREGS at Sendenyu was held with Neposo Theluo, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, RD as special guest on February 17.

According to K Neibou Sekhose, Joint Director, Rural Development, inaugurating the project, the Commissioner & Secretary congratulated the VDBs of Sendenyu New, Thongsü-Sendenyu and Lotsüphün and the Centenary Memorial Park Committee for judiciously utilizing the funds given by the Department and completing a remarkable project in such a short period. He gave credited the success of the project to the patience and unity of the community.

He extended appreciation to the community for developing the area as a bio-diversity conservation and eco-tourism destination. He stated that the village is recognized not only in the state and India but also included in the world map of biodiversity conservation. He challenged them to strive harder to make it an eco-tourism hotspot.

While stating that their village is blessed with vast land, both hilly and low, with immense potential for development, he hoped that very soon the village will not only be recognized as a bio diversity village but also as a research centre of excellent learning.  He also encouraged the villages to have master plan and prepare a vision document for the future.

Project Profile was highlighted by Gwasinlo Thong, Chairman SBC Centenary Memorial Park Management Committee, where he stated that the primary objective of the project was to fully restore the “Nsonji” Lake and its eco system and provide wage employment to the MGNREGA workers while keeping a vision of developing it to become a part of eco-tourism destination for its sustainability and economy to the stakeholders. He shared that the Project was implemented during the period 2019-20 to 2020-21 with a total project cost of Rs 42.978 lakhs, generating 15003 person days.

Imnukshila Jamir, Director RD, in her address, congratulated the village for the various awards received at the national and international level in the recent years for excellence in their efforts towards conservation of bio-diversity. She said that as citizens of the earth, we all need to play our part. While appreciating the way the community has taken up ways for environmental conservation she urged them to continue to make efforts in the protection our biodiversity and work out ways to conserve our natural habitat and our rich flora and fauna.

The programme for unveiling of monolith was chaired by Jenny K Thong, BDO Tseminyu and dedicatory prayer by Rev Gwasolo Semp, Sr Pastor, SBC.

The public reception was chaired by Er Njilo Kemp, President Sendenyu Chipwen Union while Yhunyenlo Kent, Pastor SBC invoked God’ blessings. Welcome Address as given by Hinilo Thong, Chairman Sendenyu VC and special songs were heard from The Charity Group, Sendenyu and Parashen Cultural Troupe, New Sendenyu. Word of appreciation was shared by Nyenlo Khing, Chairman Thongsü VC.

The programme was attended by the Village Council Chairmen, VDB members, youth leaders, student leaders and women representatives of Sendenyu New, Thongsü-Sendenyu and Lotsüphün villages.

The Commissioner & Secretary was accompanied by the Director RD, Joint Secretary, RD, Mission Director NSRLM, Addl. Director RD, Joint Director RD, Deputy Director RD, Project Director, DRDA Kohima and other Officers and staff.
