Rengma Hoho says ‘No’ to SDMO post withdrawal

Dimapur, Oct 12 (MExN): The Rengma Hoho has appealed to the state government to review the withdrawal order of the post of Sub-Divisional Medical Officer (and replace it with Senior Medical Officer) from Tseminyu. Even while ‘appealing’, the Hoho warned that it would be left with no choice but to resort to an own course of action for the welfare of the Rengma community.

The Rengma Hoho apprised the government that the health center in Tseminyu is one of the oldest in Nagaland and located strategically on NH 61, providing healthcare and services to all in case of emergencies during travel.  “Keeping this urgency in view, the state government has set up even a trauma center at CHC. As such, it is not understood as to why the department has taken such drastic step at this juncture, when even other less important departments are moving towards expansion, up-gradation and developments all over the state” a representation to the Principal Director, H&FW stated. The representation was appended by Hoho President Kegwanye Lorin and General Secretary Zukeya Woch.

The CHC Tseminyu acts as a “Referral Hospital” for all sub-centers in the sub-division, which not only caters to the health of needy patients but also in creating awareness and educating the rural masses, the Hoho informed adding that instead of withdrawing the post at least three more doctors besides the SDMO are needed. “On the other hand the Hoho strongly feels that the withdrawal of the posts of SDMO will result not only in the suffering of the medical staff, this illogical and unreasonable centralization of administrative and financial powers at district HQ will lead to the absence of the officers/staff in the subdivision” the Hoho maintained.

Taking these factors in view, the Hoho has called for review of the withdrawal. Failure to do so would entail an own course of action, the Rengma Hoho warned.
