Tseminyu, December 20 (MExN): The Rengma Students’ Union (RSU) hosted its 39th General Conference at Tesophenyu village from December 18-20. On the first day, RSU Assembly and a discourse on the topic ‘Model Rengma Organisation Conference’ with an objective for Model Rengma Vision 2030 were held.
The second day incorporated the actual inauguration of the conference by Er. Levi Rengma, Parliamentary Secretary for PWD Housing, Government of Nagaland.
Stressing on the theme of the conference, ‘Aspire & Achieve,’ Levi encouraged the students to have ‘Smart Plan,’ i.e., to be specific, measurable, achievable, reliable, and time bound, stated a press release received here.
To implement this, he advised the tools of 5 Ws – What, Where, Why, When, Who or Whom – to achieve the desired goal. Lamenting that our society today is ridden by trust deficit, the MLA asked the gathering to be true to oneself and do the right thing. “Young generation today has the responsibility to even correct the elders if they are misguiding,” he added. The chief guest further quoted from the Bible, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,” to encourage the students to sync themselves with the fear of the Lord in order to achieve their goals, the release said.
At the valedictory function on December 20, Rajesh Soundararajan, Deputy Commissioner of Kohima encouraged the gathering, stressing on the advantageous demographic dividend of India with majority of 15-29 years age group which can boost the potential of developing the country.
With special emphasis on Rengmas, he said that this young age group can play a critical role in fighting for the “just right” in the demand for district, according to the press release.
Focusing on the theme ‘Aspire and Achieve,’ he meanwhile opined that one should aspire for great things but do small things every day, make the right choice vested on each individual, initiate things for change, and make the best use of technology wisely to get connected in this globalised society.
Since we have skills, the DC stated, it needs to be capitalised, “channelizing it to positivity and shedding all forms of negativity to utilise the best gift for all round development and progressive society.”
The conference concluded with a cultural extravaganza, where the constituent units of RSU presented vibrant cultural folk dance, folklore narration, act and folk song.
