Kohima: Based on the scripture portion taken from II Chronicles 7: 14, Nagaland Day of Prayer was held at Union Baptist Church, Kohima from 8:00 am to 12 noon on March 15.
Various denominations, public leaders, church leaders and politicians attended the program. L. Anjo Keikung, General Secretary, Nagaland Baptist Council of Churches (NBCC) spoke on ‘Why Prayer?’ where he stated that prayer has the power to change the place where we live. “Today Nagaland is plagued with administrative corruption, political corruption and spiritual corruption. It is time we humble ourselves before God and confess our sins. We have used the name of God in vain. We have failed to keep the Sabbath day holy. We have led hypocrite lives,” said Rev. Dr. Thupuo Nyekha, Presbyter, Nagaland Assembly of God church, Kohima while leading a prayer session. The intercessory sessions were taken out to pray for all the Naga leaders overground and underground and civil society members, armed forces, bureaucrats, lawyers and all issues affecting Nagaland.
In the closing prayer, Dr. Atsi Dolie, Executive Secretary, Angami Baptist Church Council (ABCC) led the thanksgiving and commitment, where he asserted that the church leaders on their part has failed to live exemplary lives and are in greater need of prayer. Citing from Joshua 24, he said that Nagas could learn from the Israelites. He said, “We have gone through so much together and still going through so much but we have not reached the point where we are satisfied. We need to look beyond the uniqueness of the Naga nation because all these have happened because of God’s hand on our people.”
The programme started with the song ‘Saviour like a shepherd lead us’ by the Kohima Baptist Pastors’ Fellowship as 23 Church leaders from different denominations lead the sessions in prayer.
