The 5 Tribes Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CoRRP) and five apex tribe bodies have kept in abeyance the second phase of their agitation demanding the review of the reservation policy in Nagaland until June 17.
The development followed a meeting between representatives of CoRRP and the tribe bodies with the State Government, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton at the Chief Secretary’s Conference Hall, Kohima, on Monday.
After intense deliberations, the State Government assured that the core demands outlined in CoRRP’s memorandum dated September 20, 2024, will be placed before the next Cabinet meeting, the Committee informed in a press release.

The decision, including the setting up of an Independent Commission on Reservation Policy, will also be conveyed to CoRRP within the next fortnight, it added.
Accordingly, as requested by the Deputy Chief Minister and four other Cabinet colleagues, the second phase of the agitation will be kept in abeyance until June 17, the release issued by CoRRP Convenor Er. Tesinlo Semy and Member Secretary GK Zhimomi stated.
It further expressed hope that the State Cabinet will take a well-informed decision and honour the assurances given during the June 3 meeting.
The CoRRP, composed of the Ao, Sema, Lotha, Angami, and Rengma tribes, was formed in August 2023 to push for a review of what it alleges to be an “unfair job reservation policy in the government sector” that has placed the five tribes at a disadvantage.
