Retaining wall falls at NH 36A, Thahekhu village

Dimapur, August 14 (MExN): A retaining wall at NH 36A, erstwhile Dimapur-Lumding-Halflong-Silchar road, within Thahekhu village was badly damaged by the incessant monsoon early August 14.

“The road which also connects Dimapur to Kohima-Manipur has become non pliable leaving the road completely cut off,” stated a press release from Khekuto Yeptho, chairman, Thahekhu Village Council.

It informed that vehicles, including commercial and heavy vehicles, are being diverted to ply through the village approach road “which is not viable for heavy vehicles” causing traffic congestion.

“The village approach road which is already jammed by the vehicles after the damage of bridges at Nagarjan and Purana Bazar during last monsoon has been compounded now by the thoroughfare flow of heavy vehicles within the village,” the village council chairman further lamented.

The council expressed concern for the safety of the lives of the villagers and commuters.
