Rev Fr Sebastian honoured for contribution in higher education

Senapati, October 3 (MExN): The Maram Centre (Bailangpou) village organised a felicitation programme in honour of Rev Fr (Dr) Sebastian Karottupurum SDB , Principal of  Don Bosco ( Autonomous) Maram at Rev Fr NV Jose Memorial Auditorium, Don Bosco College (Autonomous) Maram. He was felicitated for his outstanding performance and contribution in higher education. 

According to a press release from the Maram Centre Village Authority, Rev Fr (Dr) Sebastian was awarded by the Department of University & Higher Education, Government of Manipur on Teacher's Day, September 5.

Speaking on behalf of the villagers, Alphonse Daniel said the future envisioned by the elders and pioneers are now turning into reality through the achievement of the College.

President of the function, Francis Ngajokpa, former Minister, exhorted that the missionaries who brought the College to the region and sacrificed for the well- being and goodness of the local populace, the State and the region. “The Missionaries had taken vows of poverty, obedience & chastity. As such, whatever role they play, it is purely for the people and that they do not have anything to take back for them,” he said.

Stating that the College has brought laurels and glory to the land in the 21 years since its inception, Francis, further, urged the local societies and leaders to continue to support the College and its authorities.

In his speech, Rev Fr Dr Sebastian thanked the villagers for organising the programme, saying that “Gratitude and appreciation encourages one to give extra efforts.” The Principal asked the local people to consider the College as their ‘baby’ and ' asset' of the area so as to enable it to grow. The Principal thanked leaders of Mao, Poumai, Zeliangrong , Thangal, Kuki and Tangkhul communities for the constant support extended to the institution.

President Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) and President Senapati District Women Association (SWDA) also spoke at the programme which was attended by a host of public leaders and organisations and government officials as well.
