Reverend Lano Longchar laid to rest

Politicians, state ministers and legislators, civil society leaders and church leaders from far and near and ordinary citizens converged at the Multipurpose Indoor Stadium, Mokokchung to pay their last respects to the departed Reverend Lano Longchar here today.  

The death of Rev Lano Longchar has been the main talk of the society since yesterday. The grief, the respect and love for the departed missionary was amply displayed as nearly two thousand people sat through the whole nearly three hour funeral service at the Indoor Stadium.

Rich tributes were paid by representatives from the NBCC and ABAM, friends of the departed reverend, Longkhum Theological Fellowship, the Longchar Clan, Aongza Ward council, Longkhum Union Mokokchung, the International Evangelical Fellowship (IEF) and family members.  

The International Evangelical Fellowship representative, while paying rich tribute to the departed soul, gave the title ‘The Anointed Prophet of Gospel’ to Rev Lano Longchar for his dedication and services to the gospel of God.  

Temsuwati, Associate Pastor, Mokokchung Town Baptist Church who led the service read out the names of leaders and church associations who have sent their condolence messages to the bereaved family members.  

Perhaps it was one of the biggest funeral services in recent times. Among the citizens of Mokokchung, were representatives from different churches especially from Eastern Nagaland and also from Wokha. To put it simply, those who attended the funeral were from all over Nagaland and even outside.  

“Except for these present youngsters, there won’t be many people who haven’t heard about Reverend Lano Longchar or haven’t heard his soul winning sermons in the many different crusades and church services,” said Sashimeren Jamir, who also attended the funeral and who also was inspired by the sermon of the reverend on different occasions in the past.  

After the funeral service at Indoor Stadium, the body of Rev Lano Longchar was brought to the Mokokchung Town Baptist Church where a short service was held. Finally, the mortal remain of  Rev Lano Longchar was taken to his native village, Longkhum and  finally laid to rest.
