Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio while expressing contentment over what he himself termed as his ambition to reach the peak of Mount Saramati has been achieved also used this significant occasion to give a clarion message to the Nagas wherever they are, pointing out that the road to unity and peace will never be easy “but if we have commitment we will definitely have unity and peace.” “So each and every Naga please rededicate and recommit ourselves and work for the unity and peace among the Nagas and in Nagaland”, Rio was quoted as saying in his message from atop Mount Saramati.
Noteworthy also was Rio’s message to Myanmar: “As we are sitting on the top of Saramati the international boundary pillar, I am happy that though an imaginary boundary was made here and had divided the Nagas, my message to the Junta government is that they should treat the Nagas who are living inside Myanmar with basic requirements like infrastructure, road, education and health care, otherwise today they are deprived, they have to walk hours together, days together, to avail mere essential commodities from India, Nagaland. They are human beings; they have not been treated well and they must be treated like human beings”, Rio reportedly stated.
Rio also expressed gratitude to the people of the region and his entourage for making the journey worthwhile and successful at the same time. “Reaching Saramati Peak is not an easy tracking route but is thrilling and challenging. And reaching here feels different and satisfactory. I wish and hope Nagas will realize that we need peace and reaching the summit I tell the people to all rededicate and work for peace, for which we have been struggling for a very long time. I’m sure God will help us in this mission”, Rio stated.
