Rio-led NPF accuses Kenye of misleading general public

Dimapur, September 15 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) under the leadership of Neiphiu Rio today asked KG Kenye to refrain from misleading the people with “half-baked knowledge and misinterpretation of legal parlance.”

The NPF Press & Information Cell was responding to a press conference conducted by the Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) in Kohima on September 14, where he claimed that the EAC Dimapur had written a letter to Rio asking him to obtain sanction for holding the NPF general convention from the “concerned authority”.

In its rejoinder, the Rio-led NPF said that it is habitual for the “minority NPF group” to concoct their own myopic interpretations of various correspondences to smear image of the “majority NPF” under the MP Neiphiu Rio.

“To set the record straight, the office of the Deputy Commissioner, through the EAC Dimapur had ‘redirected’ the letter to the concerned authority,” the NPF Press & Information Cell asserted.

KG Kenye’s assertion that “permission was not granted” is a wishful thinking, it added.

The Rio-led NPF also argued that if Kenye claims “NPF Central Headquarters” as the authority to allow holding of the General Convention, then he should explain as to why he did not address his order to the Election Commission of India.

“The ECI is the competent authority to adjudicate on disputes within a political party and it is suspiciously strange as to why the minority NPF does not write to the ECI.”

Shürhozelie-led party questions validity

Meanwhile, as the war of words continues in the faction-ridden NPF party, the side led by Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu today questioned the authority and validity of the other group.

It backed its assertion stating that like all ECI-registered political parties in the country, the NPF has frontal organizations like Youth Wing, Women Wing, Minority Wing, Legislature Wing among others.

It would be absurd if the Youth Wing – having lost confidence in the leadership of the Party President Dr Shürhozelie, and commanding majority of the office bearers – decide to select someone of its choice to become the Interim President of the Party, the Media & Press Bureau, NPF Central Headquarters, Kohima stated in a press note.

“Same goes for the Women Wing, or the Legislature Wing of the NPF party to select or elect the President of the political party they belong to, the NPF in the instant case.”

It further compared to a village administration where there are student unions, youth organisations, and women’s organisations etc under the village council. “Till date, we have not heard of any Student Organisation in any village, having irreconcilable differences with the Chairman of the Village Council, decide to select a person of its choice to be the Village Council Chairman."

Locating the same at the present NPF crisis, it said that except in Nagaland, there has never been an instance when a frontal organization of a political party has “even attempted to replace the President of the political organization they serve under like the Legislature Wing of the NPF is trying to do now.”
