Rio to lay foundation stone for Women’s college library on Friday

Dimapur: Pranabananda Women’s College in Dimapur has finally been able to acquire valuable books for its library, numbering more than 25,000, which after been properly arranged in the proposed Library building would make this library one of the biggest in Nagaland.

The desire of its Founder Secretary Manik Bhattacharjee, to establish a full-fledged library in the College has finally taken shape, with the arrivals of the books from Bharat Sevashram Sangha New Delhi, and now the College is all set to have a library building.

The Library books are all unique in itself, ranging from college and research books to old books dating back to 16th century. A wide range of religious books of all religions, politics, history and world series of various encyclopedias now adore the temporarily arranged college library room. The library also contains Parliament proceeding right from the 1st Parliament session after Independence, besides history of freedom struggle of different countries.

Speaking to media persons, Bhattacharjee said that it was a dream come true for him .He said that he had a desire of having a library and with the books coming from Delhi donated by the BSS, his dream has come true. He said that people in Nagaland, especially the youngsters need to develop reading habits to upgrade their knowledge about different things in the society. He lamented that things have drastically changed and younger generation do not utilize their time in reading books or periodicals.

The eminent social worker disclosed that he was the first one to start a library in Dimapur way back in 1948 with just 300 books when the population of Dimapur was just 500 and since then he has been encouraging people to have small-sized library or collection of books in their respective colonies.

Bhattacharjee said that College has been encouraging students to develop reading habits and as such it has been providing them different study materials, research books, besides daily newspapers and magazines. But with the new arrival of books, the students would now get an opportunity to explore into the world of literature, politics, history and other things.

The foundation stone of the Library building would be laid by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Friday.
