Riphyim, MLA rejects delimitation draft

Dimapur, Sept 5 (MExN): MLA Yankithung Yanthan rejects the draft proposal to ‘shift’ new Riphyim village and Doyang (left bank) to Sanis Assembly Constituency. The 37th Tyui Assembly Constituency MLA stated in a note that the proposal is “against the guidelines and methodology of the Delimitation Act 2002.” The sitting MLA held opinion that New Riphyim and Doyang (left bank) are an integral part of Englan range under 37th Tyui A/c of Wokha “since time immemorial.” The proposal is also an attempt to divide a “well-knitted range into two on the pretext of delimitation exercise” and to “create confusion” among the public to serve some vested interested individuals. The MAL also asserted that the draft proposal was prepared without consulting the district administration and the sitting MLA.

The New Riphyim Village Council also informed that a meeting was held on August 10 where the issue of shifting New Riphyim village and Doyang to Sanis A/c was discussed. The meeting resolved that the “intention behind” the proposal would be thoroughly scrutinized and the persons “behind this proposal” shall be held solely responsible for any untoward eventualities.

Chairman of the council Mhonsao Odyuo in a note also asked all political parties and citizens of New Riphyim village that no political activities would be allowed in the village jurisdiction till the matter is solved. Any members violating this would be dealt with and shall be held solely responsible.
