Rishiben Walling wins first inter-school Ao Spelling Bee contest

Mokokchung, July 30 (MExN): The first ever inter-school Ao Spelling Bee competition organized by Lenjeter Magazine Kohima and Department of Linguistics, Nagaland University Kohima concluded here today with Class 9 student Rishiben Walling of Jubilee Memorial School emerging as the champion.   The 2-day competition was held at Cosmos Hall, Mokokchung with ABAM Executive Secretary, Rev. Dr. Mar Atsongchanger as special guest.   Class 12 student Imtiwala of Queen Mary HSS Mokokchung, Class 9 student Lanusenla T Jamir of Edith Douglas HSS, Class 11 student Imlikümzük of Clark MHSS Impur, and Class 12 student Tekamongla Longkumer of Senayangba GHSS bagged the other top 4 spots in the given order.   The top 5 winners were awarded cash prize and certificates. Lenjeter Magazine also announced a 6-month scholarship package for the champion.

  The organizers also informed that the top 5 winners of the competition would be eligible to participate in the “All Nagaland Ao Spelling Bee Championship” to be held later this year. Similar competitions like the one held in Mokokchung will also be held in Kohima and Dimapur, it was informed.   Besides, Lenjeter Magazine also announced scholarships for three high school Ao language students and two college level Ao language students. Takotemshi (Mayangnokcha GHSS), Purtola Walling (Govt. HS Mokokchung Village) and Naiwang (GHS Changtongya ‘B’) were declared the beneficiaries of the scholarship in the high school category, while Benjonglemla and Sakurepla, both BA students of Fazl Ali College were declared the beneficiaries of the college level scholarships.
