DIMAPUR, JULY 24 (MExN): The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Nagaland State Unit today called for the immediate reconstruction of VK Hospital at VK town, Akuluto.
A press note from the Nagaland State Unit President of the RJD, Khetovi Kinny informed that he had visited the hospital on July 19 to avail treatment for injury on his right thumb “but was surprised to see a crumbling structure called VK Hospital.”
“All furniture and equipment were rusted and ceilings torn. I was made to sit on a foldable rusted steel bed which was bound with a torn piece of cloth to prevent from crashing on the floor. No doctor was present and the reason was that no quarter for the doctor was available. The doctor only comes sometimes and goes back. Three nurses were present who nursed my injury,” he stated.
The RJD President informed that on the same day, he discussed the problems faced by the hospital with the VK Town Chairman who also happened to be the Chairman of the Hospital. He added that the only hospital in the town was being neglected by the government for decades.
“The hospital was the most unhygienic medical centre I have ever come across in the state with filthy toilets, broken furniture, smelly rooms, dirty linens, cranky doors and windows and the entire structure looked like it will crumble at the slightest wind,” Kinny said.
He further informed that the road leading to the hospital was “hardly visible owing to overgrown tall grasses and the footpath leading to the medical centre was laid with age old stones most of which had been washed away.”
“How can such a medical centre effectively cater to the medical needs of the public when the road leading to it is almost invisible, the furniture and equipments are all rusted and should have been disposed?” he questioned. The RJD President further informed that the hospital receives medicines once in a year and that too when the medicines were “just about to expire the next month.”
“The public has seen the amount of progress and development taking place in every nook and corner of the state during the last 15 years of DAN government the longer period of which was headed by our Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio. The public has seen Rio as a man of words and deeds and hopes that equitable development would be ushered in even this time as he heads the government under PDA alliance,” Kinny stated.
The RJD President urged the Nagaland CM to intervene into the problems faced by the public of VK area and immediately repair/reconstruct the entire structure of VK Hospital, construct staff quarters and construct the approach road in the interest of public welfare.
