Dimapur, August 31 (MExN): Inaugural programme on training and distribution of home scale preservation equipments under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojona (RKVY) was organized by Department of Horticulture, Government of Nagaland at State Horticulture Nursery on August 31.
A DIPR report stated that during the programme, home scale preservation equipments were distributed to 14 selected beneficiaries.
In a brief programme Principal Secretary of Horticulture, MK Mero encouraged the selected beneficiaries to be sincere and dedicated in utilising the facilities provided by the department as they are the chosen ones among all other beneficiaries of the state. He spoke on the importance of processed food which can be preserved, thereby encouraging the beneficiaries to experiment from the equipments and make better use of it.
Mero lamented on the food that were wasted due to lack of processing facilities, in this regard he maintained that in India about more than twenty to thirty percent of the food and vegetable go wasted. Furthermore, he was optimistic that with the help of the equipments, the beneficiaries would opt more on cultivation towards processing and increase production in the state economy.
Director of Horticulture, Dr R Elithung Lotha encouraged the beneficiaries on the importance of the various training programmes which were basically conducted to help the trainees in which ever possible ways.
The programme was followed technical session on scope of fruits and vegetables preservation, objective and technologies of home scale preservation and dehydration of fruits of fruits using solar drier etc which was conducted by deputy director Meyasashi who also delivered brief remark of the programme.
