Dimapur, Nov 6 (MExN): It is alleged that road construction materials meant for the Kiphire-Amahator-Lukhami road are being sold to the public and towards this, attention of state authorities, public and Border Roads Organization (BRO) authorities has been called.
According to ex-MLA of Kiphire RL Akamba, sentiments of the public have been hurt over the ongoing road construction of the Kiphire-Amahator-Lukhami road due to sub-standard construction efforts which he stated are results of selling-off the construction materials to the public.
The MLA in a release informed of these: that thousands of cement bags belonging to the BRTF are being sold in the local market; that ‘hundreds of truckloads’ of stone chips are being sold to the local populace; that ‘tens of truckloads’ of local sand and ‘hundreds of drums ‘of bitumen are being sold. The MLA wondered that if the trend continues how the BRO can be expected to construct the road as per specification to comply with technical standards.
Also, Akamba alleged that field officers are not available for other ongoing road construction works of the aforementioned stretch. He stated that no skilled masons have been recruited so far. “As a result, many completed works of pressed wall, sausage wall, retaining wall and culverts have been washed away and collapsed; it is not only at Kiphire-Amahator-Lukhami road but even Kiphire-Pungro road, Kiphire-Seyochung road and Kiphire-Tuensang road constructions and carpeting is also failing due to inadequate manpower and technology machines and the working sides are totally short of technical requirement of its standards” the MLA apprised while calling the attention of BRO authorities “before public agitation is fallen on their head”.
