The Finance Department (Budget & Monitoring Cell) had on May 16, 2017 released Rs 615.00 lakh (Rs 6.15 crore) for road improvement, maintenance, RCC box culverts, etc along four different road stretches in the State.

Out of the total amount, Rs 2 crore was released for one particular stretch of road which reads very strange. The places mentioned in this road stretch are located in different districts of the state. As per drawal documents, Rs 2 Crore was released for the “construction of single cell RCC box culvert structure 6 m without earthen cushion 94.10 m and toe wall at Thizu Rangapahar Doyang road junction near zoological park at 5 km.”

Although the proposal came from the Commissioner and Secretary, Works & Housing PWD (R&B) Department, it is not known whether the Finance Department ascertained the existence of such a road stretch before releasing the amount.

The other three works include for “improvement and maintenance of road from Peletke junction to Jalukie” (Rs 100.00 lakh); development of road at proposed Mini Sectt site, Pughoboto” (Rs 90.00 lakh); “maintenance of road from 3rd Mile to Thahekhu block 7 gate via Thilukhu” (Rs 200.00 lakh); and “MR of St Joseph HSS Viswema” (Rs 25.00 lakh).

It was not mentioned as to under which head/scheme were these proposals entertained.
