Rudy ready with BJP strategy

PREITY ZINTA’S brother-in-law today touched down in Dimapur airport to address BJP legislators and workers in his maiden visit after assuming charge as the party’s organizational in-charge for Nagaland. Rajiv Pratap Rudy has yet to prepare a report card on the organizational skills and functioning of the Nagaland unit of the saffron party. But his agenda for the next 16 months as Nagaland prepares to sound the poll bugle has been trumpeted.

Dimapur’s Hotel Saramati played host as a confident Rudy outlined basic issues confronting today’s Nagaland. On the peace process, he echoed the party’s stand that had the NDA continued office as the government in Delhi, a “long-lasting” solution would have been achieved.

And yes, political rivals are political rivals. The former Union Minister for Commerce & Civil Aviation (independent charge) spoke outspokenly against the UPA coalition when he termed the “recent utterances” made by Congress leaders and ministers in the Centre of their “lackadaisical attitude” and “ignorance” on finding what was repeatedly christened as a “long-lasting solution.”

The Chhapra contestant who has competed against Lalu Prasad Yadav attempted to clear the party’s image, post anti-conversion bill. He reiterated that the BJP is completely committed to “secularism, nationalism, patriotism” and has the highest respect for the Constitution of India as far as religion, caste or creed is concerned. “The tirade of the failed UPA government at the Centre and disgruntled Congress in Nagaland has resulted in these unsubstantiated allegations and complete misinterpretation of these issues which are pertinent to a particular state,” he said.

Development, too, figured in his press briefing. Accusing the UPA of completely ignoring the “priority issues in Nagaland,” Rudy lambasted the Congress more particularly for depriving the region of Central shares and resources required for development of infrastructure and creation of employment.
