Dimapur, Jan 8 (MExN): Villagers of Runguzu, Phek, are aghast that “mere soldiers” could ill-treat a church figure and if a man of such stature could be subjected to persecution, what then is the fate of the Naga public. Runguzumi villagers are referring to the December 30 assault of Reverend Khrutsoyi Luruo by cadres of the NSCN-IM, Pfutsero.
“It is beyond our imagination that mere soldiers could ill-treat a church figure” stated a note of condemnation from Runguzu Village Council, issued through Chairman Cekhwuyi and Head GB Cekroveyi. “If a church leader can be treated in this manner then where is the safety of the general Naga public. We are really surprised to see that Nagas having such a barbaric character still exists in our society and are also allowed to do such sadistic acts freely” it lamented.
The village, hoping that the NSCN-IM would award befitting punishment to the erring cadres, also feels wise that the organization should not recruit anybody of ‘detrimental character’ whose motive is to harass the public under the umbrella of being a “national worker.”
The village is also thankful to the Naga people for supporting Rev. Luruo morally, materially and in prayer throughout the shocking incident.
Conveying heartfelt gratitude to the Chakhesang community, who, the note stated, had to spend sleepless nights in order to guard the reverend and his family members from the threat to their lives, the village expressed pride to see the bond of Naga brotherhood standing strong in the face of social evils. “We hope and pray that Nagas would continue to fight against social evils together even in the future” the village said.
