Rural youths imparted agri-based skill training

Dimapur, May 7 (MExN): With an aim to impart skill based training to rural youth on agri-based vocational areas and promote employment in rural areas, Agricultural Technology Management Agencies (ATMAs) in Mokokchung and Zunheboto conducted six-day Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) programmes from April 26 to May 1.

The programmes were conducted in association with SAMETI, Medziphema and MANAGE, Hyderabad, according to updates from agencies.

The resource persons for the training in Mokokchung were Dr Sashiyangba, District Project Officer, Land Resources Department and Nuksunginla Jamir, ATM. According to the release, the resource persons covered topics on identification and documentation of indigenous medicinal and aromatic herbs, importance of Agar and its market potential, inoculation in agar wood, and extraction of oleoresin from agar wood. The trainees were also trained on preparation of various pickles and turmeric and ginger powder.

Certificates were distributed to all the participants by Sentinaro Longchar, Deputy Project Director, ATMA Mokokchung. Altogether 18 participants from Yimyu and Khensa Village attended the training programme, the release stated.

During the same period, a training programme on ‘Mushroom Production Technology’ was conducted at Asukhuto town under Akuhaito block of ATMA Zunheboto. The training aimed at imparting skill based training to the rural youth and resource person Tovi Zhimo, ATM discussed on various topics such as identification of edible mushrooms and its health benefits and methods of mushroom cultivation.

A practical hands-on demonstration on oyster mushroom was also performed by the participants. Altogether, 15 youths were trained and awarded the completion certificates along with inputs such as mushroom spawns and poly bags were provided.
