Therie says resignation was to honour ‘people’s verdict’
DIMAPUR, APRIL 1 (MExN): The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has appointed S Supongmeren Jamir as the President of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), following the acceptance of the resignation of K Therie, with immediate effect.
This was informed in a press release issued by AICC General Secretary, KC Venugopal. “The Party appreciates the contributions of the outgoing PCC President Kewekhape Therie,” the press release stated.
Meanwhile former NPCC President, K Therie today said that his resignation as party president comes to “honour of the people’s verdict.” “The resignation was pending due to the announcement of ULB elections. However, in view of the cancellation notice issued by State Election Commissioner on March 30, there is no reason to delay,” Therie said in a press release.
Therie said that he has “enjoyed serving the people through the platform of the Congress party for almost 8 years.” He thanked the support and cooperation from all over the state, especially from the Congress ranks and files while not forgetting all well-wishers.
The former NPCC President said that he had “misled” himself “trusting people will vote on the demand for implementation of agreed political solutions, restoration of governance and infrastructure.”
“In most of the issues Congress has raised, appreciation was won from many elite leaders and intelligentsia. However, the economically poor multitude’s consideration was money and ruling power. It is more shocking to note that people protesting in the streets against the Government have worked hardest for the ruling Government they oppose. Nagaland election is not a democratic election. It is auction of votes and playing with proxy votes. I have not heard any Presiding Officer or Polling Officer stopping proxy voters,” Therie claimed.
He meanwhile clarified that he has not resigned from the duties of a Congress member. “My faith in the secular idea of India cannot be shaken. I will continue to work for the present and future generations to enjoy freedom of faith and hope.”
He further congratulated S Supongmeren Jamir for being appointed as the new NPCC President. “He has worked with me closely. I know him as a down to earth leader far from ego. He has gained experience in the functioning of Congress and in Governing. He is another person tested in fire and water. He was elected to the State Assembly and thus knows victory as well as defeat. I believe he will be more affable,” Therie said.
