Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today came out openly demanding prior attention to be given to certain important proposals pending with the North East Council (NEC) in relation to Nagaland. Rio speaking during the 53rd Meeting of the NEC held today at New Delhi made a mention of two urgent proposals of the State government namely proposal for sanction of Rs. 5.87 cr under NLCPR for additional facilities to be provided to Sainik School, Punglwa.

“These additional facilities, not included in the original DPRs, are required to be urgently provided before the school becomes functional from the next academic session in April, 2007”, Rio said while drawing the attention of the concerned Minister for their early sanction on priority during 2006-07 itself.

The other pressing matter highlighted by Rio was with regard to the proposal for sanction of Rs. 8.69 cr. under NEC to clear committed liabilities on Referral Hospital, Dimapur, created before it was handed over to CIHSR to be run on PPP model.

“Clearance of this liability is required to enable the CIHSR to move ahead and operationalise the hospital”, Rio told the NEC meeting. The Chief Minister also reminded of the commitments made by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee during his visit to Nagaland in October, 2003 which are yet to be sanctioned for implementation.

According to Rio, this included revival of Tuli Paper Mill, Four-Laning of NH-39 from Dimapur to Kohima, creation of 25,000 Employment opportunities for Youths in Nagaland, upgradation of Higher and School Education for Science Education and facilities for girls in Mon and Tuensang Districts, Regional Institute for Information Technology and extension of railway line from Dimapur to Kohima. Rio requested the Ministry of DoNER to help in expediting sanctions for the work projects.
