Pughoboto | January 11
The 45th general conference of Sümi Aphuyemi Kiphimi Küqhakulu (SAKK) got underway on Wednesday (January 10) at Shesülimi village with Nagaland minister for National Highway, Y Vikheho Swu, gracing the inaugural function as chief guest.
The minister in his address said ‘Aphuyemis’ (Sumis of Pughoboto sub-division) have been blessed to have produced pioneers in Christianity, the Naga movement and establishing villages and to share borders with other Naga tribes including the Angamis, Rengmas, Chakhesangs and Lothas.
Vikheho also stated Sumis are fortunate to be settled in almost every district of Nagaland, giving the opportunity to share culture and develop bond with other Naga tribes. And even as Sumi forefathers were known for their honesty and integrity, Vikheho said the Aphuyemis should not lose these positive traits but uphold them as their trademark. While exhorting the students to pursue academic excellence, he also reminded them to seek wisdom from God and elders, as bookish knowledge without wisdom was meaningless.
The minister also urged the youth to live life to the fullest and to be guided by four P’s - purpose, priority, principle and performance and added if the students put into practice the four P’s, then they would succeed in life.
Vikheho also shared his vision for Pughoboto people after being elected to represent them. He said during his current tenure, 2013-17 was declared as years of ‘Economic Development’ for Pughoboto sub-division and three major projects – piggery, skill development and ‘Green Pughoboto’ (tree plantation drive) – were initiated to propel and boost economy and development at the grassroots level.
On the protracted Naga political issue, the minister expressed optimism that the ‘Framework Agreement’ and ongoing talks with other Naga Political Groups would usher in a lasting settlement.
Further, on the ‘Naga Day’ initiated by Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR), Vikheho urged upon Sumis to nurture the spirit of reconciliation among all Nagas.
Earlier, convenor, organizing committee, Vihoto Sheqi, read out the welcome note, SAKK president and Khekuto V Achumi, delivered presidential address. President, Sümi Kiphimi Küqhakulu (All Sümi Sudents’ Union), Atokiho Sumi, also conveyed greetings on the occasion.
