Dimapur, August 27 (MExN): Salt Christian College, Dimapur observed 26th Fresher’s Meet on August 26 at Meren Chapel Hall with Temjem Imna Along Longkumer, Chairman & MD, REM Group, Nagaland as the chief guest.
Longkumer maintained if one does not build something for the future of the people, one does not have right to be a student. “We are the change, the change is not going to come from someone else, we are the present and the future of change and need not look back to the past to bring change,” he asserted, according to a press release.
He challenged the students to build their future with boldness without scepticism, hypocrisy and ism. Asserting that the future has to be built from now, he urged the gathering to say yes to things that are right. Students, he added, are the structure and epitome of the society and they must be strongly structured.
Pointing out the bad roads, unemployment problems in the State and talking about the change in Naga society, he questioned the students, “Are we willing to face this General Election with truth and build the future together.”
To be a future leader, he said, one should be humble, hard working, unseasonable, not taking steps for violence, keep the anger to oneself, responsible and dare to dare. “To be a leader is not only to lead but also to serve,” he added.
Longkumer further urged the students to put their heart and mind and work extraordinary and live extraordinary life. “We do not want ordinary leaders, students, faculty and ordinary things to happen in our life, we want extraordinary people to lead us.”
Principal of the college, Dr Ramsurat Maurya exhorted the students, while Rev. Thebemo, campus Minister blessed the freshers and gathering.
Other highlights of the programme included speech on behalf of freshers, songs, dance and other entertainment items.
The Mr & Miss Freshers 2017 competition, with the participation of 16 contestants, marked the day. Sevo of BA 1st Semester and Werozi of BA 1st Semester were adjudged Mr & Miss Freshers 2017 respectively.
