A two-day long orientation and review programme for Assistant District Coordinators DMA & EBRC coordinators got underway here today at SIRD conference hall, Kohima under the aegis of Samagra Shiksha Nagaland.
Speaking on the occasion, L Jamithung Lotha, State Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha Nagaland said that the National Education Policy 2020 places a strong emphasis on quality education by focusing on holistic development, experiential learning, and a multidisciplinary approach.
It aims to foster creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in students, he said adding that the policy also emphasizes teacher empowerment, digital integration, and flexible pathways to tailor education to individual needs.
Samagra Shiksha, as an integrated scheme focus on implementation of the NEP 2020 to achieve equitable, inclusive holistic quality education for all section from Foundational Stage till Secondary Stage, he said.
He expressed happiness over the state of Nagaland making a good pathway especially in the Foundational Stage wherein, tracking of individual child tracking was initiated for the Foundational Stage (Pre-primary till Grade 2) since 2024-25 academic session for the Government Schools wherein 52094 students in the Government schools were assessed to ensure Grade appropriate competencies.
About 20% children achieving desired target of Proficient, large majority of our children were in the Beginner and Developing Stage.
As we continue this path breaking initiative during the current academic session, we must ensure that all children achieve desired outcome by year end of the academic session, he said.
Talking on National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN) Bharat Mission envisioned achieving Universal Foundational Literacy & Numeracy for all children from ages 3 to 8 years by 2026-27, he said, “we have only 1 year to achieve the Mission. During the current year, we must intensify our effort to achieve the goal of NIPUN Bharat Mission.”
As Ministry of Education is in the process of evaluation of the Samagra Shiksha Scheme during 2026-27, “We must focus on effective and consistent monitoring of all activities being implemented in schools by providing necessary handholding support to our school heads and teachers,” the State Mission Director said. He said that the districts and blocks are designed to play proactive role to provide robust support system to schools. The State Mission Office shall conduct a more frequent review meeting in the days to come wherein, activity-wise reviews shall be held with focus on impact, he said.
Our State Mission team along with SCERT have initiated an innovative initiative in the Foundational Stage for Government schools – BEACON Schools (Budding ECCE Academy for Children of Nagaland), to incentivize the best performing schools in the State as exemplar schools, he said.
Stressing on the need to have a correct data, he said, “Correct data extremely vital for us to ensure proper planning and implementation of activities.” In this regard, the Districts and Blocks must guide our schools and ensure accurate data of schools in the UDISE, he said.
Earlier, Kelhikha Kenye, Deputy Mission Director Samagra Shiksha Nagaland said that Government of India is making necessary evaluation to assess the impact of Samagra Shiksha and to also explore the possibility of considering for another extension of this scheme.
He said that all the assistant district coordinators in the DMA and the EBRCs are engines in the district and the block level to implement the activities and policy of the scheme. This year, we look forward to see ourselves what we have achieved, to see ourselves where we have landed after making several efforts, multiple interventions, he said.
The introductory service was chaired by Dr Bijano Murry, Joint Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha Nagaland. The programme will continue till May 7.
