SAMETI holds climate smart agriculture training

Dimapur, November 27 (MExN): State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organized a two-day training programme on ‘Climate Smart Agriculture for Extension Professionals’ on November 26 & 27 at SAMETI, Medziphema.


The training programme aimed at sensitizing the participants on climate change for guiding farmers on probable mitigation and adaptation measures to minimize risk in the agricultural sector. The resource persons for the training programme were Dr T Gohain, Associate Professor; Dr Debika Nongmaithem, Assistant Professor and Dr Lanunola Tzudir, Assistant Professor, from Department of Agronomy, NU SASRD, Medziphema and Vikaho Chophi, Deputy Project Director, SAMETI, Medziphema.


Powerpoint presentations and participatory lectures on relevant topics viz climate change and its impact on shifting cultivation; impact of climate change on the people and natural resources of Northeast India; precision farming; climate smart agriculture to sustaining food production; and application of Bichar in Agriculture were imparted during the training, stated a press release from Director, SAMETI & Principal IETC Medziphema, Nagaland.


A practical exercise on preparation of crop calendar for potential crops from all the districts was developed and presented by the participants.


The valedictory programme was chaired by Sentinaro Longchar, Deputy Project Director, SAMETI while feedback from the trainees was given.


The training saw a good turnout of participants from all districts of the state. Certificates and training handouts were distributed to the participants. Vote of thanks was pronounced by Tiajungla Longchar, Deputy Project Director SAMETI.
