‘SARK’ formed to foster fraternity

Mokokchung, September 20 (MExN): The apex tribal students’ organizations of the Ao, Kyong, and Sumi and Rengma communities have formed into an organization to foster unity and fraternity, in their sharing common socio-cultural heritages.

Students’ leaders of the four met in a joint meeting today at Longkumer Kilem in Mokokchung. Addressing media persons after their meeting, it was disclosed that they have formed themselves as ‘SARK (initials for Sumi, Ao, Rengma and Kyong) Students’ Coordination’. “Topographic proximity and cultural affinity between these four tribes initially led to the formation of the coordination,” the student leaders said. There is every possibility of extending invitation to other tribes to join the coordination in the future, the leaders said.

It is said that the organization has been formed to foster unity and fraternity through cultural and social exchanges as also to study the cultural similarities of the member tribes. The student leaders also made it known that the organization would be organizing cultural exchange programs biannually among the SARK Students Coordination members and also undertake research on their cultural affinities and similarities.

SARK Coordination is All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK) President Abeto L. Shohe as convener, Rengma Students’ Union President Kenneth Kath as the co-convener, Ao Students Union (AKM) President S. Bendang Aier as secretary and Kyong Students’ Union President Yiben Humtsoe as Joint Secretary.

There are two member-nominees from each of the four tribes: Chubatoshi and Limaakum Jamir from AKM, Zukeya Woch and Zemtilo Tep from Rengma Students’ Union, Inaka Achumi and Himahito Chishi from SKK, NSN Lotha and Elabemo Kinghen from Kyong Students’ Union.
