The two day 56th Wrestling Meet 2016 of the Southern Angami Sports Association (SASA) concluded here today at Kohima Local Ground.
In senior men’s free style wrestling in Under-65 kg category, Mhaneikholie Kuotsu of Phesama village emerged as the champion while Vikethozo Khriethanyu also of Phesama village was the runner-up. They pocketed Rs. 5000 and Rs. 2000 respectively.
In the Under 57 kg category of senior men’s free style wrestling, Ngopisa Kuotso of Kidima village was adjudged as the winner while Vilazoto Ngukha of Mima village was awarded runner-up. They pocketed Rs. 5000 and Rs. 2000 respectively.
In the free style wrestling event for boys Under-17 years (46 kg category), Zayievoto Kiso from Sakhabama beat Kedukito Temi from Kidima to claim the champions prize of Rs. 3000. The runner-up was awarded Rs. 2000. In the girls’ Under-17 years (46 kg) category, Khrieleno Rhakho from Sakhabama beat Vikono Kezo from Sakhabama to claim the championship belt. They pocketed Rs. 3000 and Rs. 2000 respectively.
In the girls’ 49 kg category (Under-17), Vizoseno Kiso from Sakhabama and Nosezonu Kuotso from Kidima were adjudged 1st and 2nd and awarded Rs. 3000 and Rs. 2000 respectively.
Kevithuto Sophie, NPS, AIG (Provisioning), PHQ gracing the valedictory function as the guest of honour asserting that “Culture and tradition are our identity” and challenged the youth to revive the rich culture and traditions, so that the younger generation do not lose their identity.
Earlier, Keneilel Rote chaired the closing function while declaration of new SASA team was made by nomination committee convenor Akho Neikha. Vote of thanks was proposed by Tosovi Khariitso.
Altogether, 18 wrestlers have been selected to represent SASA at the upcoming ASA wrestling meet 2018. The selected wrestlers are: Visevo Zashümo (Phesama), Kekhrie Yhoshii (Kigwema ), Kevime Vitsu (Viswema), Vitsoto Vitsu (Viswema), Sahovi John Phinyo (Kidima), Kediseto Kiso (Kidima), Viphrezo Mejura (Phesama), Bode-o Zhasa (Kigwema), Mezivil Kiso (Kidima), Tesovikho Thorie (Kigwema) Rokovolie Mejura (Phesama), Zadutol Phinyo (Kidima), Sweyiekhul Khatso (Jakhama), Khevizole Zutso (Kigwema), Kulto Toso (Viswema), Kezevikho Sakhrie (Viswema), Keyose Zecho (Kezo Town) and Vikeduzo Tepa (Mima).
Meanwhile, a new team of SASA executives have been announced for the tenure 2018-2020. It will be led by Ruokuovikho Chale as President and Meyiesiil Thaprii as General Secretary. The others include: Vice Presidents – Zaprani Mekro and Metevizo Sophie; Joint Secretaries – Krocho Yongo and Sahovi Phinyo; Wrestling Secretary – Keneilel Rote; Joint Wrestling Secretary – Vimhal Kikhi; Athletics & Games Secretary – Neilekho Ziitso; Joint Athletics & Games Secretary – Albert Neisavoto Zashiimo; Treasurer – Medo Keyie; Property Secretary – Aviu Linyii; Publicity Secretary – Notsol Neikha; and Advisor – Ketoupuzo Lhoushe.
