SASU Open Futsal tournament kick start at Jakhama

A two day long Open Futsal Tournament 2021 under the aegis of Southern Angami Students’ Union (SASU) kicked start today  at Jakhama in Kohima district under the theme ‘Rise as one’.

Meyiesul Chaya, PS to Er. Zale Neikha, advisor youth resources & sports graced the inaugural function as chief patron.
Chaya was appreciative of SASU for organizing such event to facilitate the football lovers to keep the passion alive, and also to strengthen the spirit of oneness and brotherhood. He asserted that the present Naga society stands at a crossroad and added that young people has lot to learn, offer and give back to the society.

Chaya urged the youth to step out of their comfort zone and apply the concept of dignity of labour.

He also told them to stop being selfish, rather motivate one another so as to envision for a transformed Naga society.
He maintained that sports can also be an alternative way out to put oneself in the bigger picture, earning fame and glory, like education that imparts knowledge and shapes a person’s life.

In this, he called upon the people to change their mentality and approach about sports by stopping to visualize sports as a mere hobby or recreational activity, rather focus on its merit and take up sports as an industry.

SASU president Zhovito Rikha said the tournament has been initiated to bring the people closer and keep sports spirit alive.

He lamented that the society is entangled with ‘ism’, and further called upon the youth to be agent for oneness and retrieve the lost value of society to rebuild.

48 teams from Southern Angami areas and Kohima joined the tournament.

The champion will get Rs. 30,000 while runner up will pocket Rs. 15,000.

Semi-finalist will be awarded with Rs. 3000 each.

Top scorer and best goal keeper will pocket Rs. 1500 each while player of the tournament will get Rs. 2000.

Jakhama Town Youth Society defeated Khami United 5-1 in the first match of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Metekhriezo Patrick Khale, PS to Medo Yhokha, advisor Technical Education & Elections will grace the closing ceremony on September 11.
