DIMAPUR, JANUARY 21 (MExN): The Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) today issued a statement expressing sadness at the death of a domestic tourist, identified as one Bakhanta Nath, who passed away at the rest camp above Dzükou valley on January 17.
A press release from the SAYO said that the deceased, who hailed from Gugamukh, Dhemaji district of Assam, had come with 4 other companions to visit the valley on January 16.
“But unfortunately on January 17 morning, the deceased was found dead by his companions who without immediately informing the concerned authorities fled to Assam,” the SAYO said.
It informed that the SAYO gathered around 30 volunteers along with the OC, Khuzama Police Station and his personnel to Dzükou valley and brought the deceased to Viswema village junction. “The mortal remains, after a short funeral service, was handed over to the South Police Station, Kohima for post mortem and for necessary procedures where it was informed that the cause of death was natural and there was no foul play,” the SAYO stated.
On January 19, the deceased was handed over to the family members.
The SAYO meanwhile condemned the companions of the deceased “for their negligence and disloyal attitude in reporting the incident to the caretakers of Dzükou valley, the SAYO and the police over the occurrence of the incident.”
“Also they have violated the mandatory guidelines of the SAYO for not taking a local tourist guide for trekking to Dzükou valley,” it added.
Meanwhile, thanking all those who helped the SAYO in retrieving the body of the deceased, the SAYO appealed to all persons, local, domestic and international tourists, to mandatorily seek local tourist guides while trekking to Dzükou valley or in the southern Angami areas of Nagaland.”
