Sazolie College 4th Annual Lecture held

‘Finding job opportunities in the private sector: Be Your Own Boss’

Kohima, March 31 (MExN): Sazolie College, Jotsoma, organised its 4th Annual Lecture on March 31 with Rev. Dr. Mazie Nakhro, Director, Mission Facilitators, Texas, USA, speaking on the topic ‘Finding job opportunities in the private sector: Be Your Own Boss.’

Stressing on the prevailing situation in the state, Dr. Nakhro lamented that our leaders and elders, unlike in developed countries, are not doing enough to create opportunities for the younger generation. Instead, at present, he said the older generation is eating the food of the younger ones and the younger ones are not doing anything about it. He opined that the older generation should take the responsibility of laying a good and strong foundation so that young people can stand on their shoulders and progress in all areas.

For creating more opportunities, Dr Nakhro said that more investment should be made in the private sector instead of creating more government jobs without improving the work quality. According to him, distribution and devolution of power, instead of concentration of power in a few individuals, and privatisation instead of nationalisation are necessary for creating more opportunities. Creation of small businesses is also vital because it can be seen that they are the engines of economic activity in advanced countries.

Dr Nakhro urged the students to wake up, strive and be more assertive, and also to rebel in the right manner. Instead of going with the flow and being complacent, he asked them to be more passionate in what they do and believe. There are thousands of professions and within one profession there are in turn many job opportunities, so the focus should be on diversifying and creating more opportunities, he opined. After his talk, Dr Nakhro also discussed at length the various questions posed by the students.

The programme was chaired by Neikepelie Shunyu, Asst. Prof., English and Dr Kangzangding Thou, Principal, gave the Introduction. Toshinaro Imchen, Asst. Prof., English, gave a special number and Nzan Kikon, Chaplain, said a prayer.

Dr. Nakhro is an ordained minister of the Angami Baptist Church Council. He holds several degrees both secular and theological, including a Ph. D from Dallas Theological Seminary, Texas. He has a wide array of interests and has held various responsibilities impacting many lives both in India and USA. Although his family is based in USA, lately he has been involved and calling for a socio-political-economic transformation in Nagaland.
