SBI Gram Seva empowers girl child  in Chümoukedima sub-division

Dimapur, January 24 (MExN): The SBI Gram Seva programme implemented in five adopted villages under Chümoukedima sub-division namely Urra, Bade, Khriezephe, Diezephe and Tsithrongse under ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA), Don Bosco in collaboration with the District Level Centre for Women (DLCW) - Mahila Shakti Kendra, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Dimapur celebrated National Girl Child Day at Urra Area Villages’ Union Hall on January 24. 

An awareness programme was conducted on ‘girl child rights and education’ and ‘women centric schemes’ which was attended by about 100 participants from the five villages.

Girl child rights and education
Arhomo C Ngullie, District Coordinator highlighted on the workings of DLCW. Lanusangla Jamir, Women Welfare Officer, DLCW delivered the awareness on ‘girl child rights and education’. She spoke about sensitizing the mentality of people in our society to educate more girl children and give equal opportunities irrespective of gender, race, caste and religion. 

She urged the girl children to be courageous enough to raise their voices and know their rights. She motivated the participants by sharing the stories of successful women in the world today. 

Women Centric Schemes
Dhonthaidi Langthasa, District Coordinator, imparted knowledge on ‘women centric schemes’. She mentioned about Sakhi – One Stop Centre, which provides integrated support and assistance for women afflicted by violence under one roof. 

Sakhi – One Stop Centre provides services like medical, police, legal aid, shelter, psycho social and video conferencing. In addition, she mentioned about Women Help Line-181, Pradhan Mantri Matri Vandana Yojana which provides maternity benefit schemes for pregnant women above 19 years of age. Women require registering themselves at the health care centre to compensate money during the time of delivery. 

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao which creates an awareness campaign to improve the efficiency of welfare services for girls.

A press release received here stated that the programme began with a prayer led by Rev Fr Santosh Mundu SDB, Vice Principal - DBHSS, Dimapur and the welcome speech was delivered by Rev Fr M D Varghese SDB on behalf of AIDA. The program was chaired by Vethojo Lohe, Educational – In-charge of   Gram Seva programme.

It was concluded by the vote of thanks proposed by Imnayangla Jamir, Convergence Officer of Gram Seva programme.
