SBI Kohima opens Senior Citizen Counter

Nagaland Urban Development & Municipal Affairs Advisor, Dr Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire and others during the inauguration of Senior Citizen Centre at the main branch of State Bank of India (SBI), Kohima near Kohima DC office on March 28. It was done through the initiation of Elderline Nagaland. The centre will facilitate friendly counter on Ground floor with comfortable sofa seat, water filter and separate toilet room.

Kohima, March 28 (MExN): Senior Citizen Counter at State Bank of India, Kohima branch was inaugurated by Dr Neikiesalie Nicky Kire, Advisor, Urban Development and Municipal Affairs on March 28. A brochure to guide the Pensioners was also released by SBI on the occasion.

A press release received here stated that Dr Nicky Kire in his address said, “It is our duty to respect Senior Citizens by creating such facilities and expressed his happiness that SBI and Elder Line have done it.”

Neithonuo Liegise, Programme Manager, Elder Line Nagaland thanked Social Welfare Department for choosing Good Samaritan Women Society to be implementing Agency of ELDER LINE in the state. She also thanked Besii Bosco Assistant General Manager, SBI Kohima branch for willingly accepting their proposals and creating a separate counter with elderly friendly facilities setting example to other Banks as well. 

She stated that Elder Line Nagaland is rendering dedicated service for the Senior Citizens in acknowledgement of their great contributions to the society and families. She called upon the Health department to create Geriatric ward for Senior Citizens.

K Wango Lanysym, Assistant Director, Social Welfare Department thanked SBI for the facility and expressed his hope that Bank will be sensitive to the needs of the senior citizens in addition to providing the counter. He stated that out of 57,400 old age pensioners in the state, only about 6000 Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) could be done for want of account number and requested the Banks to reach out to the Senior Citizens in the villages.

Dr Khanlo Magh, President, Senior Citizens’ Association Nagaland expressed his gratitude to both SBI and Elder Line for providing the much needed facility which was possible due to their conviction, commitment and compassion.

Besii Bosco in his welcome address thanked Neithonuo Liegise, Programme Manager, Elder Line Nagaland for initiating the needs of Senior Citizens and working together to make it happen. 

Invocation was pronounced by Dr Rose, Secretary, Senior Citizens’ Association Nagaland and vote of thanks by Nenia Florence, Chief Manager, SBI Kohima branch. The programme was attended by Senior Citizens’ Association Nagaland, Elder Line Nagaland, Social Welfare Department, Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Resettlement and Good Samaritan Women Society.
