KOHIMA, January 27 (NEPS): The Supreme Court (SC) in a landmark judgment has directed the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRT&H) to cancel the work order issued to contractors, M/s Maytas-Gayatri (JV), for the construction of two laning roads in Nagaland, namely - (1) Mon-Tamlu-Merangkong, (2) Longleng-Changtongya, (3) Phek-Pfutsero and (4) Chakabama-Zunheboto. The apex Court further directed the Ministry and the Nagaland State PWD (NH) to re-tender the Project by initiating a fresh process and to complete it within a period of three years and six months from the date of passing the “Judgement and Order, i.e. 11.01.2017.” The Judgement, however, granted the M/s Maytas-Gayatri (JV) the liberty to invoke the “Arbitration Clauses to claim their pending bills.” In a statement issued here on Thursday, Temsu Soyah, Sr. Legal Officer, Works and Housing-NPWD, described the SC’s Judgement and Order as a “landmark” as it came in “favor of State of Nagaland for benefit of general public.” “At one point of time the instant project was about to be foreclosed, however, on the untiring initiative of all concerned, the Apex Court could be made to understand the genuine needs of the people and the hardships due to non-completion of the project,” he pointed out. He also appealed all concerned to cooperate with the authorities while implementing the Court’s directions so as to complete the project in time.
