SC Jamir urges Naga leaders to ‘protect and develop’ people

Dr S C Jamir, former chief minister of Nagaland former Governor of Maharashtra and Goa today urged upon the leaders of Nagaland to get into grass root and take step to promote, protect and develop the people of the state.
“This is high time that people especially leaders of different communities, NGOs leaders should realize that it is only through hard work, we can transform, we can regenerate, we can re-invent and we can take Nagaland a land of peace, a land of prosperity and a land of progress,” said Jamir while speaking at the Kingdom Leaders Prayer Breakfast programme here today organised by Father’s House Church.
He said that Naga people are known for hard working people and honest people but today the situation went differ
“We have not able provide what we should do,” he said.
Regretting that Naga people whether it is Christian leaders, political leaders, NGO leaders are only fond of the past, he said “We are too obsessed to talk about the past.”
He urged leaders of Nagaland to think seriously about today’s situation.
Stating that a leadership have to decide priorities, he said the leaders have to take care of the people, give two meals a day, give water to drink, give good road, and give power supply.
He said that there are multiple authorities and multiple taxations, adding that that there too many authorities but no one is governing and it has adversely affecting governance in Nagaland.
Dr Jamir said that there is famine of truth and scarcity of truth in the state but people do not want to come out with truth.
“It is we, who have to present what really is taking place in our society, in our state and in the country,” he said adding this our responsibility to tell the truth.
“Naga people were known for honest people, truthful people, upright people, courageous people, hard working people. But what happen to all these values today?” he posed.
Dr Jamir felt that Christian have to put more emphasis on truth.
He said that the people of Nagaland are standing in the shadowing border line today to decide which way should it go.
At this stage, he said, the state leaders have to decide.
“They should have a capacity and have full knowledge of what would happen in the distant future and near future.
A leadership has to translate vision into action, he said
Stating that there should be a role model of leadership for Naga people, he believed that Nehemiah should be the right type of leadership today in Nagaland because “he was honest, trustworthy.”
He said that though Nehemiah was in a very comfortable palace enjoying all facilities, honour, prestige, status and yet he never forgot his own people.
Among the birds, Skylark though fly higher and higher but keep her eyes on her next, he said.
“As a leader, be like a Skylark. Never ever forget your people,” he said.
Apostle Rev. L. Yimsung, founder Leaders’ Arise Nagaland also spoke at the programme while Kohima village council chairman Dr Neiphi Kire shared greetings.
The next Kingdom Leaders Prayer Breakfast programme will take place on November 23 at Chümoukedima.
