SCHE, ISFAI observes International Literacy Day

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 10 (MExN): The Salesian College of Higher Education (SCHE) observed International Literacy Day on September 8 on the theme ‘Celebrating Diversity through Creativity.’

The teaching faculty and the students graced the occasion wearing Indian attire and celebrated the day through various competitions. There was poetry slam, extempore speech competition, drama, solo, dance competition and competition in various forms of literary art, a press release issued by SCHE informed. 

Speaking at the programme, special guest Dr Inakali Assumi, educator, researcher and author urged the students to become readers and admirers of art. Reading someone’s art, culture and history leads one to the limitless world of the other. It opens the understanding of life for us and through it one can reach out to the world and embrace diversities, implants the seed of love for art and literature, Dr Inakali stated. 

Dr Inakali Assumi is the author of the ‘Yellow Dress’ and winner of the best objective poetry award for the poem ‘She’ in the Magnus Opus Music and Art Festival 2016. 

Meanwhile, Dr Fr Paul Punü, the principal exhorted the students to honor the written word, authors and the power of literature in ones live. He challenged the students saying, if one wants to be a good leader and rule the world, one needs to be a good literary person. He also insisted to be passionate about learning new ideas, maturing them and to transform the world. 

The ICFAI University Nagaland celebrated International Literacy Day on September 8 with enthusiasm. The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of literacy and education, promote reading habits, and underscore the role of universities in fostering a culture of lifelong learning, a press release stated. 

The event included a formal programme where the students participated through different mediums and forms like poetry reading, speech, act and video presentation. They emphasized on the importance of literacy and encouraged community involvement to create an inclusive society of learning and literacy.
