School Education to observe Freedom Fortnight

Kohima, August 7 (MExN): The Department of School Education, Nagaland will be joining the rest of the country in celebrating the ‘Azadi 70-Yaad Karo Kurbani’ (Freedom Fortnight) from August 9 to August 23.  

The Directorate of School Education has informed all DEOs, DDEOs, SDEOs, Principals, and Headmasters to supervise and monitor the activities of the fortnight celebration and submit a brief report of both government and private schools along with photographs to the Directorate of School Education. A press note issued by Wonthungo Tsopoe, Addl. Director (HoD) informed that the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has issued a list of activities to all the schools, including private and aided schools, asking them to carry out as many activities as possible. It is to be ensured that each primary/ upper primary/ elementary/ secondary school takes up at least one activity and each higher secondary school takes up at least two activities, stated the release. Mass singing of the National Anthem at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 23 is to be conducted across all the schools in the country.  

The suggested list of activities:

•    Mass recitation of the National Anthem by all students in the state/UT, including private and unaided schools at 11:00 am on August 23 (the last day of fortnight long celebration)  

•    School children could paint greeting cards for Jawans posted at border stations. These could be sent to the nearest APO for forwarding to the jawans.  

•    Mass tree plantation drive by the students may be organized to instill the idea of sustainable development.  

•    Talks by invited persons on the theme of freedom movement can be organized in the schools. Special focus may be on martyrs from the state/UT or local areas.  

•    Painting, Elocution, Essay Writing, Slogan Writing and Patriot song singing competitions may be organized.

•    Plays with freedom movement theme may be organized; Freedom run may also be organized.
