Schools functioning without textbooks shock PSUN

Poilwa, April 2 (MExN): Poilwa Students' Union Nagaland (PSUN) today expressed shock to find that government schools in the village have been functioning for the past two months without textbooks and other necessary tools. Poilwa Students' Union Nagaland President Ihoilung Chuilo in a press release stated that while appreciating the teachers in the village schools who have been managing without proper syllabus and books, the Union questioned the department as to why no textbooks has been issued even after lapse of more than two months.  

The Union further warned that the fundamental rights under article 21-A of the poor village government schools students has been denied by not providing the necessary textbooks and the like. “Embezzling crores of rupees meant to provide free textbooks and kits for the millions of poor is a crime and cannot be tolerated,” alleged the Union.  

The Union cautioned that the indifferent attitude of the government towards the government school students has to be done away with immediately to strengthen the principle of the right to education under article 21-A of the Indian Constitution, and to make the dream of education for thousands of students specially in the rural areas a reality. The Union cautioned the concerned department to immediately issue textbooks and the like without further “delaying, denying and hindering this basic right to education.”  

The Union has further asked all the government employees within its jurisdiction to perform their duties with utmost sincerity and dedication. Cautioning that the ignorance of the people in the village cannot be taken for granted, the Union warned that irregularity and irresponsibility of all employees within its jurisdiction will be sternly dealt with.
